How is a digital twin built?
3D laser scanning: the starting point is exact geometry. A with on-site survey we record the real state of the building: walls, windows, structures, mechanical elements.
Scan-to-BIM modeling: a based on point cloud we build the BIM model at the required level of detail. Each element is a separate object, parameterized.
Metadata Enrichment: Next to the geometry we assign metadata: materials, systems, condition, maintenance information. You can also supplement this with your own data.
Online display: the result is in browser-based viewer is also available. No software installation required, the building can be viewed from anywhere on any device.
Regular update (optional): the value of the digital twin is that it is up to date. As an optional service, we carry out regular updates: new survey, model update, metadata update.
Difference between the digital twin and the BIM model
| BIM model | Digital twin |
|---|
| Aim | Design | Operation and decision support |
| Content | Geometry + parameters | Geometry + Parameters + Metadata + Status |
| refresh | It is prepared once | Can be updated regularly |
| User | Designers, architects | Operators, investors, FM teams |
| Access | Design software (Revit, ArchiCAD) | Browser, platform, API |
The BIM model is the basis of the digital twin. Anyone who orders a BIM model has already taken the first step towards the digital twin.
